SOUND DESIGN REEL using Propellerhead Reason 4.0 and Logic Express 6. This piece was created in early 2010 for the audio design portion of my portfolio. The portfolio requirements were to remove all audio from a AAA rated video game and replace it with original sounds. All sounds were created using the synthesizers in Reason 4.0 and Logic 6. Every sound has a least one layer of audio. Some sound effects were composed of several subsequent layers of varying pitch and amplitude -- washed with digital audio effects and pulsating frequency sweeps, making the audio more mechanical than organic. The sounds blend seamlessly with the game's environment, and add to the ominous ambiance of the game's final mission. The video was imported into Logic Express 6 where every reoccurring sound was annotated in the sequencer timeline. A flow chart was written to identify each sound, including where it will be in the mix, and the clip's length. Most sounds were created in Reason 4.0 using the Thor Polysonic Modular Synth, the SubTractor, and the Malestrom Graintable Synth. The audio files created in Reason were resampled in Logic using the ESX-24 Sampler for MIDI triggering and additional modulation. |
